From an aerial observation to a maintenance action

For an installation outside town or infrastructure spread across a large property, collecting images is only part of the job. The useful result is a record that the maintenance team can locate, interpret and follow up without having to reconstruct the flight.

Give every observation a location

Agree asset names, site layouts and the level of detail needed before the inspection. A clear link between an image and an asset makes the handover more useful.

Choose the sensor for the question

Visible imagery helps document physical condition; thermal imagery adds a different view of operating equipment. Select the aircraft and payload around access, working distance and the inspection specification.

Plan the next visit

Record findings consistently so repeat inspections can show change. Combine aerial observations with the maintenance team’s checks before deciding on repairs or replacement.

PLAN THE WORKFLOW

What to consider first.

Define the assets, fault types and reporting format first. A thermal anomaly is an observation to investigate, not an automatic diagnosis. Consider site access, flight conditions and how the maintenance team will use the output.

EQUIPMENT TO EXPLORE

DJI Matrice 400 + Zenmuse H30T

A modular inspection setup pairing the Matrice 400 with the H30T’s visible-light, zoom and thermal cameras. Consider it for industrial and infrastructure programmes where the sensor requirement justifies a larger platform and field setup. The aircraft and H30T are separate products.

DJI Matrice 4T

Visible-light and thermal cameras for applications where both types of imagery are useful; sensor and software suitability depend on the inspection specification.

REMOTE OPERATIONS

DJI Dock 3

For sites that need repeat aerial observation, explore a dock-based workflow with the Matrice 4D or Matrice 4TD and DJI FlightHub 2. This is a separate system from the handheld-operated Matrice 4T.
